Using the USB 3.0 Connect USB devices could be connected by sending a command or by touching an optional button. This is useful if USB devices should not be connected permanetly to the PC. Typial cases are

  • Backup disks or sticks, which should be attached only when backing up. This will make it more complicate for Ransomware to encrypt the saved data.
  • Protect valuable USB devices against lightning or other electrical damage
  • Save power if the USB device is not used permanently
  • USB cameras used for video conferrences are only operable when this is needed. No rick of wiretapping
  • Connecting to USB-connected networks only at defined conditions
  • Automated USB device testing, e.g. simulating plugging USB sticks
  • Protect the USB socket in cases when the plug is pushed and pulled frequently
